Apple’s commitment to making its smartwatch increasingly reliable in the medical and health fields continues. Today the company has donated 1000 Apple Watch for free to the University of North Carolina for a new study on food addiction and bulimia nervosa.
With this study we want to understand what are the biological changes caused by a bad relationship with food, examining both the cases in which you eat too much and also quickly and the cases in which you exceed with exercise in order to eliminate all the calories assimilated with food.
Researchers will use Apple Watch to examine heart rate and detect physical changes in subjects. Thanks to a specifically developed iPhone app, program volunteers will be able to monitor details about the foods they have taken and record any other relevant information. Taking into account that, according to the National Association of Anorexia Nervosa and Associated Disorders, there are about 30 million Americans who suffer from eating disorders and every 62 minutes at least one person dies of this, the gesture of Apple is important and if you succeed in get something concrete, Apple Watch would be enriched with a new function.
