According to the Wall Street Journal, Apple may soon abandon the competitor Samsung as the main supplier of OLED displays and choose a new Chinese manufacturer.
Samsung is currently producing OLED panels for the iPhone X and new models coming this year. Already starting next year, however, Apple could completely rely on a new supplier.
The proposal for Apple comes directly from China, where BOE Technology is organizing itself to meet the demands of the Cupertino company for the OLED screens. BOE is currently one of the largest suppliers of large LCD screens, also used in the iPad and MacBook. The Chinese company is, therefore, trying to conquer the OLED screen market, which is much more difficult to construct.
As BOE Technology is a company controlled by the Chinese government, the agreement with Apple could also improve their relations. In addition, the Cupertino company would undoubtedly bring significant revenues directly to China, rather than to other countries like South Korea or Japan.
