Today Sony has revealed new lenses for smartphone cameras with a very high resolution. These new lenses could be used in the next iPhone.

Sony has announced the arrival of these new lenses for smartphone cameras through the following official release:

Sony Corporation today announced the arrival of IMX586, the CMOS sensor for smartphone cameras. The new sensor is equipped with 48 megapixels, the highest number of the entire industry.

Indeed 48 megapixels are definitely high for a sensor so small, especially for the problem of photos in low light conditions. Such a high pixel density in a small sensor results in discrete noise in darker photographs. But Sony seems to have also solved this flaw, thanks to a special Quad Bayer filter, which significantly reduces the video noise.

Apple could adopt this new sensor for the next iPhone, although probably will be used before on new Sony smartphones coming this year.
