According to Korean Herald Apple has assigned a local Korean company to start making sample 65-inch and 77-inch display panels for its upcoming iTV, the display panels are organic light-emitting diodes and have been designed in collaboration with Apple.

Apple originally planned on launching its long-rumored iTV Q3 2014 but in 2013 the Silicon valley based company made a visit to the company in Korea and delayed the proyect to 2015.

Around 2 million Apple‘s iTVs with 65- and 77-inch liquid crystal displays were expected to hit the market in the second half of this year. However, Apple employees visited this local company in October 2013 to delay the plans to next year

The delay was caused because of Apple’s attempt to switch the LCD panels to OLED panels, this is also the reason Apple hasn’t gone with companies it has worked before like Sharp because they are currently unable to mass produce OLED panels.

Though the yield rate of OLED panels is still not high for mass production, they are considered to be the best panels for TVs because of its high definition and the potential of curvedness

First rumors about the iTV started appearing last year and originally the device was expected to release Q3 2014 but it got delayed, not only by hardware issues but also by content issues as it is unable to provide sufficient unique content, giving no reason for people to buy the iTV.
