Gurman says the Apple Watch Series 8 will feature a new sensor dedicated to measuring body temperature.
In his latest edition of the Power On newsletter, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman talks about the new sensor coming to the Apple Watch Series 8, the Apple Watch SE 2 and a new “Rugged” model dedicated to extreme sports.
According to Gurman, both Apple Watch Series 8 and the “Rugged” version will be equipped with a sensor for detecting body temperature. The Apple Watch SE 2, on the other hand, will hardly be equipped with this function.
Unlike a traditional dedicated thermometer, the Apple Watch will not give users a direct reading of their current body temperature, but it will tell them whether or not they have a fever. In addition, she may also recommend that you go to the doctor or use a dedicated thermometer.
The reason the Apple Watch won’t be able to 100% replace a thermometer is because the Cupertino company needs FDA approval, a very slow process that could force Apple to postpone the integration of the sensor on the smartwatch.
So, the function of the body temperature sensor coming later this year will be similar to the blood oxygen sensor, which can give us an idea of what is happening to our body but not necessarily give us medical information.
In addition to this, no other news is expected on the next Apple Watch since it will be equipped
ed with the same S6 and S7 chip that we find on the two previous generations.
