New rumors say the company is working on two new, affordable 24-inch and 27-inch external displays. A new version of the Pro Display XDR is also on the way.

In 2016, Apple discontinued the Thunderbolt display and hasn’t released any other external displays aimed at the average user since. Many of you may be thinking about the Pro Display XDR released in 2019 right now, but this monitor is aimed at professionals and costs a whopping 5,599 euros.

Now, new rumors suggest Apple is developing two new budget-friendly external displays for the average user. A new version of the Pro Display XDR with Apple Silicon chip is also rumored to be in development .

24-inch display

Earlier this week, leaker @dylandkt said LG is developing two new displays with the same specs as the current 24-inch iMac and upcoming 27-inch iMac .

According to @dylandkt, therefore, one of the standalone displays will be based on the current 24-inch iMac, which has the following specifications:

  • 4.5K Retina display with 4480 × 2520 resolution;
  • Maximum brightness of 500 nit;
  • Support for 1 billion colors;
  • Support for DCI-P3 wide color gamut;
  • True Tone technology, which automatically adjusts the white balance of the display to match the color temperature of the light around you for a more natural viewing experience.

Like the aforementioned machine, the 24-inch display will not feature a mini-LED display nor ProMotion technology , meaning the display will not have increased brightness for HDR content or a variable refresh rate of up to 120Hz for one. smoother scrolling.

Seeing as the 24-inch iMac starts at $ 1,499, the standalone 24-inch display without any of the computer-related components like storage should be priced lower .

27-inch display

According to @dylandkt, Apple’s 27-inch display will be based on the alleged new version of the 27-inch iMac. The leaker said this display will be equipped with a mini-LED display with a variable refresh rate of 120Hz , so it will support ProMotion technology.

Earlier this week, display analyst Ross Young said Apple is planning to release a new 27-inch iMac with a mini-LED display and ProMotion in the first half of 2022.

There isn’t much information on the 27-inch display at the moment, as the 27-inch iMac is yet to be released, so we don’t have full specs.

New Pro Display XDR

LG is also working on a 32-inch display that will likely be a new version of the Pro Display XDR, according to @dylandkt. The leaker said the display will be powered by an Apple Silicon chip and will support ProMotion technology.

Times of release

Finally, the leaker said LG is still in an “early development” stage, so it could be several months before Apple releases these displays.
