A new level of security for backing up conversations to Google Drive or iCloud.

Through a press release published in these hours , Facebook makes it known that it has introduced end-to-end encryption backup on WhatsApp .

Five years ago, the note reads, end-to-end encryption debuted on WhatsApp which – to date – has protected over 100 billion messages per day among more than 2 billion active users on the platform. But now this possibility is also extended to backups.

Starting today, a new and optional level of security can be enabled to store conversations on Google Drive or iCloud . Encrypted backups are obviously protected by a password chosen by the user, which is necessary for recovery.

The feature is currently being phased out and requires the latest version of WhatsApp.
